Housing market is currently deflating (price is decreasing) so its recommended not to purchase right now. Expectations is for prices to continue declining for at least a year, THEN it would be a good moment for speculative real estate.
Internationally speaking, there is a very strong trend towards developing and emerging market. An clear example of this is Donald Trump, who after seeing a saturated market in the US, is aiming at places such as Dubai. Latin America has enormous potential for high growth if investing in business buildings.

For all those looking for different trends in the market and how it will reflect the housing market are just sitting there waiting for someone to tell them that it is a seller's market. After which every monkey and his uncle will begin telling everyone else that this is a seller's market.
If I had a magic way of telling when various trends that affect the stock market and housing up turns or down turns I would not be on yahoo.
I would be writing an article or preparing to sell the information to the highest bidder.
I guess I am telling you, no one has the glass ball that spits this information out. You have to go with your guts on the stock market and housing market.
Now if you just want to listen to me spew, I charge like the rest see my email address, we can make arrangements.
I hope this is of some use to you, good luck.

I will speak frankly. The housing market on the average is in the toilet. HOWEVER.... that is expected to continue until the end of '07. The time is good to buy properties if you want to live in them or are looking to rent them out. They are horrible for flipping homes, which is how a lot of quick money is made. Also, a lot of cheap small homes are selling really well right now. A lot of elderly and empty nesters are looking to reduce their costs. If you could find a small and cheap home to fix and flip, especially in an area where retirees are heading to. (Florida, Arizona,) I think you can turn a tidy profit.
