Can a friendship survive on text messages alone?

My oldest and closest friend recently, and gradually, stop calling me and didn't even return my voice mails. She would send me text messages while at work, saying it was the only time she was able to contact me. This went on for several months until I felt that she was just making excuses for not wanting to communicate with me. I told her not to send me any more messages and if she wanted to talk she had my number. I haven't heard from her since. I can understand that she has a busy life but I feel that if being my friend was important she would make the time. Am I being unresonable?

You did the right thing. Because she doesn't work 24/7. So don't feel bad you know your instincts maybe is because she has a new boyfriend who is monitoring her cell phone calls.

I have a really good friend and lately all we talk on is thru texting its still personal cause this person doesn't get a good signal on her cell we both help each other out alot. text message is almost like e-mail.

no not unreasonable i am going thru that kinda now with a friend she went off the internet and that was our only source of communication trying to get the personal side back sometimes friends just need space try not to take it personally maybe she is busy too ya never know when people go quiet on ya usually means something else is wrong try not to take it personal if she is your friend she will contact you in the meantime take care of yourself don't wait around if its meant to be the friendship will find its way back.

It's unlikely that a friendship can sustain itself on text messages alone. A big part of friendship is contact - maintaining a friendship. If you're lucky, one of you will fight for that friendship when things go wrong. Looks like that's going to have to be you.

And that means more than text messages. Just don't stalk her. Nobody likes that.
