well, from experience, it doesn't help if you tell other people that you're very humble...
sure, it's a desirable trait, but sometimes it is very hard NOT to be proud - living through someone else's shoes may do nothing for you, may even make you think that you're even better.
it's something that has been ingrained your entire life. the humble person doesn't try to be humble - they've been spit on and insulted their entire lives. they've been told that there are so many better people out there, etc..
the proud person has been told how great they are, they've been told how good they are at this, and so on
instead of trying to BE more humble, you would probably do better to ACT more humble, to be THOUGHT of as more humble, by actually caring about other people first when you can
holding the door open for someone wont' do anything, or letting someone get in front of you at the bank - no, you need to put people before you in situations that actually would take away a beneficial position.

Listen to this sermon on how Jesus was Humble. He was in the King of Kings yet he washed the feet of plain ole people. Back in the day that was probably the nastiest thing you could do considering they wore sandals 24-7 and their feet were probably the most dirty part of their bodies. Jesus did not care he made himself an equal to even the lowest of low.
SO do not think you are better than anyone else, if you died today NOTHING goes with you! Things are just that, things. Make the most of relationships and make friends with (or compliment) complete strangers for no reason at all. You could make their day! Now that is something to be proud of!
It is not bad to be proud as long as you realize that without God you would have nothing to live for and by the way you would not be alive.
God Bless!

remember that every second brings you closer to death. Probably you will become old and weak first. Also consider all of the situations that might occur that you would fail in, and where others might succeed. The proudness might be from high levels of some hormones or neurotransmitter. You should enjoy it. It may not last forever. Just temper it with compassion.
Remember that words often have more than one meaning, or have a continuum of meaning. This is especially true with very high-level abstractions like "love" or "pride". Perhaps the kind of pride you are experiencing is a healthy kind, and it is your language that is skewing your thought.

Maybe you should redirect your pride. Write down what exactly makes you proud. Most of the things on your list will probably not need changing. Maybe a few though if you take pride in your girlfriend that can lead to jealousy and mistrust. It is difficult to change as we are creatures of habit. But whenever unhealthy pride comes up say a mantra, phrase, prayer etc. to yourself Whatever you feel most comfortable with will most likely lead to success.

Give away all your money and possessions. Live in squalor on the streets for a few years. That ought to do the trick. Or is that more than you're hoping for?
What's wrong with being proud? I'll take that over low self-esteem.

listen when other people are talking to you. Especially after you have asked them something. Only ask what you really wanna know about. That way, you will acctually WANNA KNOW. It is obvious to others when you are not interested.
Don't be RUDE, or INSULTING. Sarcasm ain't funny, just mean and jerky. Give only compliments about things that you really like. There's probably lot's of things on that list.

Serve those less fortunate.
Love those who hate you.
Listen three times more than you speak
A good sense of self-esteem is important, and getting out of your comfort zone helps the perspective. Do not think less of yourself, just think about yourself less...
