If I had to pick just one, it would have be Robert Johnson. Everybody else starts in second place.

Muddy Waters of BB King. Others just below that level John Mayhall, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton.

Again, Robert Johnson. Compared to his contemporaries he can't stand up, but the man started it. There is also an old song by Ledbelly but I can't remember the name. From a pure gutair standpoint, SRV, Clapton, BB. King, Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters.

I know it sounds cliche but I love the old school playing of Robert Johnson and the few acoustic albums of Muddy Waters.
