Talk about them. What kind of work do they do? Do they find their job fulfilling etc. If they ask you a question keep you answers very short and turn the conversation back to them.Within three or four questions their answers will give you ideas for new questions. The person gets a very good impression of you but has learned nothing about you. This will make them curious and wanting to talk with you again.

You don't have to start a conversation right away. After all it's good to introduce yourself or someone else introduce you then listen. Sometimes I just listen. Then you can respond to that person or conversation with a short statement Then let them talk. Conversation. An excange of thoughts between two or more people. What they think, then what do you think. Don't be too concerned, they don't know what to say either.

Wherever you meet them ask them if they have been there before or go there often like a bar just to break the ice. Then move on to things like what they do for fun. Stuff like that.

I have a set of questions that I ask the person. Ask about their interests, music, movies, school or job. Ask questions about THEM and hopefully they'll think of follow up questions to ask you!
