Ultimately, the U.S. may be right to allow the Iraqis to decide Saddam's fate for themselves. But this is no time for triumphalism. It should shame both Americans and Iraqis to hear a man as repugnant as Saddam presenting himself as a uniter and imploring Iraqis "not to hate." Executing Saddam won't extinguish those fires of hatred any more than it will relieve the pain of his victims. Only when Iraqis build a decent, humane society at peace with itself will they be able to erase the memory of the crimes for which Saddam died.

Yep-Saddam continues to be alive and being saved on a secret island alongside with Elvis, Curt Kobain, John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Bigfoot, the Roswell aliens and the 3000 people who supposedly died on 911. each and every thing is a conspiracy after all.

americans have no right to invade a sovereign nation and pretend to be the ultimate keepers of justice and savior of the world. saddams fate was sealed the days the invasion started.
the trial was a total farce. why only saddam? there are lots of rulers who deny the people basic human rights. but only the collective international community has the right to decide who are they and what to do with them.

if you want to hang the leaders based on the deaths they caused to keep themselves in power, then you will have to do that for almost all leaders.

1. bush, blair= for the iraq war on false accusations.
2. all western rulers during the period of colonization for the mass murders in colonies
3. communist rulers in russia, china etc who ruthlessly suppressed dissidents
4. rulers in many asian nations who are fighting separatist movements
5. all the kings and emperors like alexander, asoka, akbar etc

You have a point, but the Sunnis and the Kurds that lived in fear for year, and many where killed at his command deserve justice.
The insurgents and the religious radicals have their own agenda and that is... plain put... to kill all who do not agree with their views. Saddam's death will encourage those who where oppressed by him (Sunni and Kurds) to take arms against the insurgents and the Saddam loyalist.

If Time is your only reference, then you need to check out other reports and get the full story, Yes Saddam said that, but he also
said the opposite and was inciting violence. It was very contradictory.

i think americans don't have the right to determine the fate of saddam or arrest him at all
they wanna punish him for his crimes????????
if so;
who will punish americans for what they did in iraque
it is now full of violence and the number of victims is much more than that was under the rule of saddam and all that thanks to u.s.a
i think executing saddam means nothing but it may cause more violence

Well I am totally against capital punishment for anyone. However if it is the law of the land in which he was tried, so be it.

I don't think for one moment it will change the tragic situation in Iraq, and may inflame things even more.
