Can not be done...the fire place logs are approved to meet certain safety standards. If you built your own and they caused a fire in your home the fire insurance company would not have to pay you the insurance money because you caused the fir due to neglect. Just buy the kind you want

You can visit you local hobby store and buy some clay. Sculpt out what you want and then have it fired in a kiln. You would be surprised at how easy it is to find somebody with a kiln that will fire it for you. Put a post up at the local Walmart and I'm sure you'll get a response. Research a little bit on how to sculpt and fire clay first. You don't want a 6 inch sold log. It can be done...make sure that you use a glaze or a slip and not paint the logs. A glaze/slip will be painted on the clay before it is fired and goes on just like paint but will withstand the heat of your fireplace.
