I think he's 70. He's gonna die soon anyway. When the Americans see that he is hung, he will a symbol of American aggression against muslims for centuries. It will be one more recruiting tool for Sunni Muslims throughout the world.

It's a great deal for Saddam. No wonder he is not fighting the sentence seriously.

You've hit the nail on the head...we will immortalize the guy for all of the Sunni's to rally around. All hell is gonna break loose over there and there will be no closing Pandora's box once Saddam is killed.

They already think of him as a martyr and the Sunnis have known for a long time that Saddam would be put to death. Like they require more excuses to hate us - what, are they going to start loving the United States if the man isn't executed? Please. I, for one, don't care if he's 70 or 170. The man tortured, murdered and buried thousands of his countrymen, women and children in mass graves like animals with no more thought than he would give to swatting a fly. I won't give his death anymore thought than he gave them. If anyone actually believes that letting Saddam live on will warm the hearts of the Muslim world toward us they are delusional. They have plenty of recruiting tools right now, this is going to make a noticeable difference? BTW Saddam was tried and sentenced by an Iraqi court, not an American one.

EDIT: To Happy: BRING civil war? You mean different from the one that is already going on?

He will become a Martyr in the eyes of his follows but what is one to do with him? Keep him in a small hole in the ground without natural light until the end of his days? Surely they would then be spending money on his health care as I am sure he would have "human rights"!!
The man will always be a Martyr in the eyes of his follows no matter what they decide to do with him! Maybe, just maybe his death can bring some closure to the hundred's of thousand's of people that have suffered at his hands!
