I say "IT" cuz I am 7 weeks pregnant so I don't know the sex. My son is a very good baby but very attached. I don't want the new baby to be the same way : attached

The question is just an example of a situation. I was supposed to put "IF"
in front of it.
Sorry for all of the confusion

At this age you can't spoil a baby- that's what our doctors told us. Once they get closer to a year of age, then you can start spoiling them. Some babies just need to be held- both my son and my friend's daughter could not be put down period... we had to hold them all the time until they hit maybe 4 months of age. My son wouldn't even sleep unless I was holding him! My son also had colic where he'd cry and cry and cry for hours at a time- usually at night around the same time every night.

My suggestion to you is none of the above- try swaddling your baby- rocking it, and wrapping a blanket tight around it holding him close. Singing also helped my son. Sometimes they just need held, your baby is only a week old, so trust me, you can't spoil him.

Goodluck!

NOPE you Love and nurture that baby until it starts showing signs of getting to know reason. The only thing I think a baby should cry for is if after you have changed fed burped and held and they still cry and there is nothing wrong....you should let them cry....babies learn to self soothe. But they are only that little for so long so just when the child starts showing tantrums you give into is when the spoiling begins.
My rules were not to let her cry for more than 15 minutes before I tried something else. She had colic though...so I needed the break.
Babies can also cry when they are overstimulated to.

Pick him up and love him and cuddle him and make him feel warm and safe. Never let him cry it out. He is 1 week old and this new world is terrifying compared to the safety of the womb. A well loved baby is a well adjusted baby.
You cant spoil a baby. You can spoil a toddler by giving into demands and tantrums. A baby is totally dependant on you, that is your job. Dishes and laundry and cleaning can wait. Pick that baby up!!!

It's okay for your kids to be attached! That what being a parent is about! You did a great job mom! Keep up the good work!

Did you know that children that are the most "spoiled" (attached/dependant) are actually the most independent as they grow older. It's good for your children to be attached.

Answer every whimper-it teaches them to trust and love--you are giving your baby a gift, not spoiling them!

They will be grown up before you know, they'll be embarssed by you, want to be with their friends instead of you, and you'll long for the days your child clung to you!

You cannot spoil a newborn. They need to know that they can count on you. Try relaxing with the baby. Your cleaning can wait. Some babies just need to be held more. There's no such thing as spoiling someone with love.

the first thing i would do is try to burp him or her...if that does not work try to hold him or her over your arm and walk around the house like that with the baby looking to the ground. that always worked with my 2 year old. good luck you are doing fine you are the rising the baby so if you spoil him or her its your baby:)

Oh, my. "Spoil" is the wrong verb here. You can't give your precious week-old baby too much love and attention. Forget about cleaning or relaxing. If the baby cries when you put her? him? (odd that you refer to your child as "it" -- maybe this post is a fraud?) down, pick the baby up again and pat him/her gently, walk around slowly and whisper softly to him/her. Don't EVER worry about "spoiling" a tiny baby -- it can't be done. Good luck!

You cannot spoil a child under a year old... If a child is crying theyy need something, if its not a clean diaper or food, then theyy need to be loved.... A proven fact, if a child is never held or coddled by the age of 2. they can die!! Love them and hold them, quiet classical music, vibrating motion, and maybe a bouncie chair... and your child is not an IT!!!
take care \

My son was somewhat "needy" as an infant. He seemed to be a little upset ALL the time no matter what I did.
I invested in a portable swing which was AWESOME! And I got a vibrating bassinet which was also AWESOME. Having him entertained by these things was great. It allowed me time to do chores, shower, relax.
Get your family involved if possible to relieve some of your anxiety.

you haven't spoiled your baby. new Born's need a lot of care. My youngest liked to be wrapped very tight in his blanket when he was first born. I was not good at wrapping him he's daddy was great at it. Try a baby swing that helped me alot. sounds of nature Cd's babies enjoy soft sounds. Don't let any one tell you , you have spoiled your babies there not babies for long so shower them with all the love and attention you got. good luck.
