ive heard that lane furnature will replace their cedar chests that have the lock on them, im just wondering if anyone has done this and where a good place to start might be. Its in kinda poor condition, probably not worth much to an antique dealer.

I have never heard of anything like this.
Go to a lane furniture dealer and ask them if this is true.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
issued a recall on September 4, 1996
Release # 96-186 on the locking mechanism on Lane cedar chests. They will replace the lock. Call The Lane Company toll-free at (888) 856-8758 to get your replacement lock. The recall came about because children were hiding in the chests and suffocating.

I have an old cedar chest that was in bad shape. I had it refinished though it was expensive to do and it's like brand new. It was worth it to me since it was my Grandmother's.

You would be surprised so take it to a dealer and ask what they would give you for it and he may have a newer one to trade for the old one you never no until you try.
