At least they can protest peacefully, surely the lack of taste in the poster was very prominent, but it is there for a reason. These people may or may not be supporters of Saddam, but some would say if not most in the middle east that the trial held for the tyrant in question was in fact questionable. If you look at it from their point of view satisfaction will never be had, because of the underlying fact of US involvement in the process. In case you have forgotten we aren't particularly liked in that region and the burning of flags and leaders in effigy is nothing new. Foreign states have never taken kindly to their occupiers and their neighbors don't take too kindly to outside influence either. We are worlds apart and far from solutions to the problems that plague each of us. However distasteful, freedom of speech must be recognized if we are to combat those who would destroy us.

When cartoonists depicted the prophet Muhammed with a bomb for a turban, many muslims felt exactly the same way. It's ironic that attaching such powerful emotions to a symbol occurs so universally, when we hear that there are such great cultural divisions! Yet, like the cartoonists, these people are just as entitled to express their disapproval - they feel the punishment is barbaric and not morally justifiable.

It is unfortunate that we offend people when we express opinions, yet we remain entitled to do so. It is only when such opinons are based on nothing more than prejudice, or intend to incite violence, that there is a need for censorship.

You can't live your life scared all the time, but you should be angry about it. The "flag burners" don't realize is that Saddam and his friends aren't ripping up a piece of material, they're saying they'd rather be sticking the knife in every American.

it's exactly this type of arrogance that makes us americans so hated in so many parts of the world today -- that kind of "us vs. them" mentality that burns bridges and places our great country in even greater danger than it would otherwise be. these people are expressing their anger. many of them have lost friends, family, homes, etc. to american bombs. without debating the justifications for those bombs, how can you ask them NOT to see americans as their enemies when they've been hurt so badly? yes, we must protect ourselves, yes, we are in danger from our own enemies. and yes, i will be VERY angry if anything even close to 9/11 ever happens again. but i can't be angry at people who have not seen the amazing benefits of being an american, only tasted our military strength.

It's a picture! How can anyone be "offended" when one considers the source? That you are "offended" means that you grant them credibility. As for being "scared," that's what they're hoping your reaction would be. Congratulations, you just handed them another win!

Yes we are hated in alot of places . Our goverment looks out for us and doing so they don't take into account or care about what our action do to other peoples lives .

So yes it draws people to hate you and me we get blamed for the goverment funding in secret little fight in other countrys .

Yes Saddam was a monster but who put him into power ?

The question i have is say 10 countrys thought Bush should be removed and started trying to hunt him down or like we do in Latin
america and trying to unstablize our goverment how would we react ?

Because as much as the liberal media would like to convince otherwise speech cannot hurt. The best way to counteract reprehensible spech is to allow it to be said and then let the community dismiss it and it will go away. Let the Klan mornons have a parade. People will see they are just inbred trailer trash and want nothing to do with them. Someone buring the flag actually makes America stronger. Tolerating stupid disent keeps it from gaining legitimacy. If someone says Black people are keeping me down and then we tell them you can't say that it just reinforces his argument. If you let him scream it from the rooftops people are going to ignore him and he will go away.

Those people are entitled to their opinion of us just like we are of them. And in many ways, our country deserves it. We always stick our nose in others business trying to get things to come out the way we want them. We switch sides, and lie and don't keep promises we make. I am ashamed of some of the things our country has done and the way we have treated other countries. I am embarrassed by our present leaders and feel it's our own fault for many of our countries problems.

If our country would just stop dropping bombs on innocents and deposing governments at our convenience (and monetary profit) then maybe the rest of the world wouldn't hate America so much, eh?
You do understand why people in the middle east might be angry at and scared of America, right?
