I notice that most people who ask for peoples opinions seem to just want everyone to agree with them. For instance someone once asked something like "should the death penalty be re-introduced to Britain", every single person that said it shouldn't was thumbed down, even though most of the answers were well-written and stated their point very well.

It seems if you want to get a best answer you can type any old rubbish, as long as you agree with the asker. I've seen numerous amounts of people getting a best answer just by typing "yes".

That's why I don't answer many questions here, I don't want to sell out just to get 10 lousy points.

Try typing a little more than 'yes' or 'no' if you can.

You don't have to sell out. I always write my true opinion. I don't care if I get a thumbs down for it, that means nothing. But telling your side of something may give someone else some insight on something that they had no knowledge of. You should reconsider answering questions here.

Not at all.

I'm still relatively new to Y! Answers, but I try reasonably hard to give people the best answers I can. Sometimes, that includes pointing out to the asker that their question is obviously skewed.

There is only so much you can do to prevent people from gaming the system for points, but over the long run it becomes clear who is (or isn't) producing quality work. After a little more than a week, I can comfortably say...10 points one way or the other doesn't really matter at all.

No, I do not agree with the asker to get points. I just answer honestly and don't care whether they like it or not. When I ask a question, I look for honesty, originality and humour in the answers, not someone who agrees with me.

I agree with you, I give my opinion and don't worry about the 10 points. I don't think most people worry about the ten points either, based on some answers out there.

I state my opinion whether or not I agree with someone. I feel it's my right to have my opinion. I do think it sucks that I get thumbs down when I disagree with someone. That's why I thumbs up anyone who gives me a thoughtful multi-word answer whether or not they agree with me (unless they're saying something ignorant or insulting). But yeah, people are often times trying to get people to agree with them. and it sucks. It's like saying, "Your opinion is only valid if you agree with me."

No way. If I answered to get the points I'd be as much of an ***-hole as most of the people asking the questions. Anyone reading this I don't mean you.Smile.......

I don't care anything about "best answer." What does it get you? Nothing. People think your cool? Whatever. I answer these questions to help people out, just like I would like to be helped if I ever ask a question. If I get best answer cool, just meant I helped.

Then keep your integrity and just answer the question anyway and settle for 2 points like some of us do.

I've never done that unless it was something I agree with. I really hate it when people do that. I mean why ask a question if you already have your mind made up about something?
