Hi there,
first, let me tell you something egyptians don't hate American ppl, they just disagree with American governiment. So, for you as an American you will be treated as one of our guest here in Egypt.
I want to recommend you to come for a short visit to cairo, then try to go to Luxur or Aswan as the weather there now is perfect.

I think the rest of the guys here all gave you the right answer, Egypt is safe. I need to add that Americans are not hated by Egyptians, a mere generalization because of the political scene in the middle east. I honestly think people in Egypt like Americans but I can't really say the same about the American administration. But people can differentiate between both, so you should not be getting any negative vibes here.

Well, to be honest with you it's really safe but, of course you'll always have to avoide certain places in Egypt.. You ned to be aware the as an American in Egypt everyone thinks you have a lot of money so they're all after your money.. You might gett ripped off all the time.. For example, if a taxi right cost locals 5.00 L.E or 1 USD they might charge u for 75.00 L.E which might be almost 10 USD. So you better watch out on that matter... also EGypt is really dirty and polllution is everywhere you better be prepare to face the definition of global warming and future earth which can be found in Eygpt... The third dirtest place in the worl..

Just returned from a second trip to Egypt this year. No problems with safety, any more than tourist locations in most countries. The tourist police are every place you might be visiting. For the current US State Dept. information on Egypt, link attached.

Its completely safe. I traveled there alone many times and I never had any kind of discomfort, even when I walked downtown. Egyptian people are so kind.

Trust me, Egypt is safe. Egyptians will be delighted when they know your american because they like american people. Egyptians are nice, friendly people who always make sure you have enough to eat! lol

Egypt is very save ,there is a thousand of tourists comes to Egypt every day ,i think that it is a clear mark about how safe it is .
you can ask americans and they will tell you one thing (EGYPT IS VERY SAVE ,DO NOT MISS THIS VACTION).
