...What a horrible guy. Any way you look at it, that's not a very good move on his part. Just because he's a "cute guy" means nothing; he has what he perceives as flaws just as you do.
I have dealt with nasty, nasty dark circles on VERY WHITE skin for ages. My whole life. So it's heriditary often. But there are things that can help:
-Make sure you're sleeping enough, regularly, and sleeping on a pillow that is elevated a bit. Puffy eyes can make circles look worse.
-Drink tons of water to flush out the salt/alcohol/etc. you may be consuming.
-Take a good multivitamin/mineral product. Esp. take vitamin C and the B vitamins.
-Be sure that you're not anemic. I was, and when I went to the doctor and was given iron supplements, my circles cleared up a bit and I wasn't so pale and sleepy.
-Avoid super-salty things and too much drinking in the first place.
-You can see if things like Vitamin K creams will help you...some like them, some don't. Don't spend money on something you feel won't help...it probably won't.
-I like CoverToxTen by Physicians Formula. It's in the concealer section. It conceals well AND diminishes circles. For real....check out the active ingredients. Good stuff and lasts A LONG TIME.
-Just buy an awesome concealer. I like Maybelline's yellow concealer. It "cancels out" the purple colour of dark circles. Put a thin layer of lotion on (one for dark eye circles can't hurt!), put a bit of foundation, then concealer, and set it with a good powder so it doesn't look shiny (which would draw attention). You're good to go! And buy a good concealer brush! Makes all the difference in the world.

Don't hate yourself for something like that...and don't listen to people who are deliberately trying to make you feel bad. Friends? Pah.
Dark circles are mostly a result of very thin skin under the eyes, not necessarily a lack of sleep. But do watch your food intake (lots of vitamins, no alcohol etc, you know the deal), make sure you get enough sleep and fresh air, and, as a temporary solution, try Benefit's Eye Con cream to fade dark circles or Benefit's Boi-ing concealer to cover the circles. Benefit is pricey stuff, but well worth a try.

This isn't a permanent solution at all, but seeing as I only get around 6-7 hours of sleep every night, it's a quick fix.
i use an eyeshadow to make the darker bits blend, preferrably one a bit lighter than my skin tone or the same color.
brushing a light, skin colored eyeshadow on either side of the bridge of your nose also helps highlight a cute nose and bring attention away from the circles. ^.^
these work great for me anyway, and since i have such sensitive skin, it's much easier on my skin than concealer or foundations are.

You need to get more sleep, also there are some good eye creams out there that reduce the darkness around the eyes. However, dark circles under the eyes are hereditary, if either of your parents have darkness under the eyes, more likely you will too. Use garnier, the best one I think.

i'd say 1st of all sleep well (get more sleep) 2nd slices of cucumber (or cucumber juice) applied to the skin around the eyes can help reduce the appearance of dark circles. Cucumber slices help to lighten the skin and also have a soothing, refreshingly cool sensation when applied. Lay down with the cucumber slices on your eyes for at least 5 minutes, up to 10 minutes. Set an alarm if you're getting ready for work, because you don't want to have to explain to your boss why you were late.
Cucumbers don't just help dark eye circles - they also help soothe your eyes after a long day of staring at the computer screen. But if you get cucumber juice in your eyes, they'll sting like crazy. So be careful.
If you don't have a cucumber in the house, try using slices of potato. They work almost as well.
Vitamin E for dark eye circles
This nifty little remedy for dark eye circles works very well for some people, and not at all for others. Take a Vitamin E capsule and carefully pierce it with a pin or needle. Dab a bit of the oil on your fingertip and pat it into the skin under your eyes. This remedy can help reduce dark eye circles and puffiness as well.
When you're done, swallow the rest of the capsule with a glass of water.
The cold washcloth
When washing your eyes after using any of these remedies for dark eye circles, use a washcloth soaked in cold water. Cold water helps to constrict the blood vessels under the eyes and can also reduce puffiness.
Other remedies for dark eye circles
1. Drink more water. 8-10 glasses per day, no excuses. Water helps to cleanse your body of impurities, which can contribute to dark eye circles.
2. Stay out of the sun. If you're going to be outside, use a sunscreen to avoid making those dark eye circles darker.
3. Are you allergic to something? Dark eye circles, especially in children, are sometimes a sign of an allergy. If you suspect you may be allergic, talk to your doctor.
Tea for two
For some reason, dark eye circles can't abide an old tea bag. Take a used tea bag (black, green or white), after it has cooled, and apply it to the skin under your eyes. Lay down while you do this - otherwise, it's hard to get the tea bag to stick. Leave in place for about 10 minutes. Make sure the tea bag is somewhat dry because if it's too moist, irritating tea can get into your eyes, which can make you look like you've been crying.
Herbal tea bags aren't recommended, except for chamomile. Chamomile tea bags can help reduce dark circles and puffiness around the eyes because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
The Indian remedy for dark eye circles
This recipe comes from an acquaintaince, a fashion model in India. She uses this particular preparation on her dark circles every morning before covering them up with a thick concealer.
You will need:
1 tsp tomato juice
3-4 drops of lemon juice
a pinch of turmeric powder
enough white flour to make a paste
Mash these ingredients together into a medium-thick paste and dab it under your eyes. After fifteen minutes, wash the paste away. This should lighten the dark circles and address puffiness to some degree.

Concealer is a great way of getting rid of dark circles under the eyes. It works for me. You may want to see a doctor or dermaologist though. You may have a more serious problem.

i am sorry to say everyone keeps giving you advise on makeup to hide your dark circles instead of getting rid of them. only use makeup when the dark circles have diminished or disappeared. you can purchase ponds eye revitalising gel cream from department stores which actually get rid of the circles altogeather, put it on everyday for 7 days and notice they will disapear and drink alot of water to flush away your toxins from you body and have at least 7 hours sleep everday.
those people who say are your friends need to be put in there place. i have a trick that works.pick up a fault about them that they least like about them selfs and say it to them exactly how they do it to you. they will soon realise how it feels, and if they dont like it say what they give is what that get!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck and if they still dont change get new friends who love you with or without flaws !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure to get enough sleep every night to start. If you are getting enough sleep and still have the dark circles, go to your doctor. You might have allergies to something you are not aware of.
