Being a lil kid back then, I only remember Max's kind smiling face as he lent over to put down a bowl of food for that cute little dog.

In the show he was supposed to be a mongrel they found on the freeway assumably abandoned, hence the name. Don't know if he was an actual breed in real life just remember him as a real mop.
