Considering you say black plug from front of computer, I would guess it's a USB plug. First of all, did you completely unplug and re-insert it? What do you mean one is on top of the other? one mouse cursor, or the prongs inside the plug casing? Have you restarted your computer? If you have two cursors and one is a ghost, then it makes sense that one of them is messed up. If the wires and plug / casing are damaged, then I would suggest you give up and go buy a new mouse, unless this is an exceptionally wonderful mouse, at which point I would suggest you get her to pay you for the one she broke, and then go buy a new one.
If you have your heart set on fixing this one, provided the cord/plug is damaged, and mouse is fine, and you have the wiring harness from an old mouse, and a continuity tester, and possibly a soldering iron, and resin-core solder intended for electrical work, and a work bench, and those little alligator clips mounted on an adjustable holder, then I can tell you how to fix it; but if you have all that stuff, you should already know how to fix it. If you don't have all that stuff, it would be cheaper to go buy a new mouse, provided it really is damaged.

Remove the ball by turning the ring holding it in 1/4 to 1/2 turn to the left. Clean the ball and the rollers inside the mouse with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. Pick out any fibers or hairs that may be wrapped around the rollers. Put it back together and it should work fine. Bert

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
