Most computers will play any region, or they can be changed to play DVDs of any region. DVD players are usually more specific; it may not work if it is not a multi-region DVD player.

Most of the DVD players now can play multi-region DVDs. Most of my DVDs are from the US as I buy them for personal collection (Friends, Smallville, Star Wars, Harry Potter). Although my player is from Singapore. Be sure to ask if your mom-in-law's player can play multi-region.

A region 1 DVD won't play on a Pilippine DVD player, unless she has a region free DVD player. You might be able to find a region free DVD, but they are'nt always available.

i think most of the new ones will be able to play other regions. but if you keep playing, say, region 5 dvd's on your region 1 dvd player, the dvd player will switch to region 5 permanently. that's what i read on my region 1 dvd manual anyway. hehehe...

Likely. We have tons of DVD's from the states and are playing them on a locally bought DVD player without problems.

I also suggest sending or buying a DVD player to send, especially the one that can play Divx,MP3.etc. that way you can make your own DVD, CD to send to them. Good price around 40 -70 USD
