Okay if you want to be the best basketball player and if you want to make it on your team read this remember if you wanna make it, it takes time. Not some miracle drug.
Well first of all you have to figure out what position you wanna play. And what are some of your strenghts and weaknesses in basketball. If your 5'9 practice dribbling and shooting three pointers.. do things like that.
A really good thing to buy if you have time is videos from Better Basketball or other videos online about basketball drills. You can download it.. check them out on youtube or w/e. Other thing is you can just watch basketball games.. see how they play it helps a lot.
Im guessing this is High School Basketball.. w/e it is keep in mind you must be able to run about 5 miles.. be athletic.. able to jump extreamly helps... and you must must be mentally prepared. If you miss a 3 pointer don’t get down.. you can do it. Remember always play hard. If you think you cant do it you wont do it..
For jumping just jump rope…. Run 2 miles every day. Drink plenty of water. Eat right. Start lifting if your playing for high school. It helps to be buff you can do so much when you are.
Now at home what I use to do is go in my garage. I saw this video on dribbling for better handling. I did those dribbling practices every day about 6 of them took me 30 min. When I was watching T.V I laid on couch I took a ball.. ill try to explain this best as I can I took the ball and practiced my shot I just took the ball with my right hand and made the same motion as I would have if I was shooting. Try to get the ball near your nose. The last thing I did was run 2 miles every Saturday on the track while dribbling the ball just once a week.
OKAY pay attention right now I’m going to teach you how to shoot…. Mechanics in basketball is key. First when shooting find the best way or your favorite way to shoot. Remember keep you elbows in, feet toward the basket. When you release your shooting hand keep that hand and arm straight at the basket. And when shooting keep your eyes right at the basket. If this is hard to understand you can see it at better basketball or try to find a video online.
So At the park start of shooting 10 free throws. Then shoot around the free throw line. Then shoot at the perimeter 10 each. Then do 10 lay ups on the right 10 on the left. This should take you 10min. If your extreme and really want to make the basketball team shoot about 100 jump shots and 100 3 pointers. I did this once took me about an 1hr but I couldn’t play basketball for 2 days.
Remember practice practice. The best thing for you to do if your short is start jumping. Jumping helps on your jump shots, the higher you jump the higher percentage you have on making it and when making lay ups same thing applies. If you look at Steve Nash or Kobe Bryant when they take a three pointer there like 2 feet of the ground. Increasing their precentage. They have those shoes that help you jump and if your not lazy and dedicated it will help you extreamly. If you practice try not to take a break maybe 2 times a week. If your tall congratulations..
For driving to the lane go in hard Allen iverson always does this he goes in hard when the guy is 2 feet away from him he does a cross over or he just stops and jumps and shoots.
Play with other people if your not good at first keep practicing and you’ll see how good and how easy it is. One last thing stretch before and after every time you play basketball. Drink plenty, sleep plenty if you think you can do it then you can. Good luck hope you make the team.

Practice every day i play basketball and i am really good at it but i also hang out. Always stay in shape i know i have a six pack and some of the guys i know don't. Watch what you eat because that can slow you down on the court.

Well that seems easy, practice makes perfect. I am sure you have heard that before. If you are home and don't have time to go to the park then build your stamina is important, sprints are helpful. Building back up your speed and stamina is important to your game as you need to have the ability to run up and down the court no?
Knowing all the moves may help as you are practice that at home as well, pretending to make the movements helps your body to gain back some of the flexibility it may have lost over time. Kind of like drills kinda I guess.

Maximize your time my man. We all know how we go to "Practice" and basically chill a bit then shoot around, chill a lil more then work on passes...even more chillin' then run some laps! We all do it. Cut all of that out and work on specific stuff. Forget all scrimmages that you see in the park and concentrate on your practice. If you work on your shooting one day, work on your ball handling the next, switch it up! At home, get some ankle weights or something and walk around the house with em. Try to do the stairs on your toes, it builds calf muscles. You know, eat right and all that other good stuff and you'll be just fine. Like I said before maximize your TIME!

I am a basketball player too. I've played for six years. Just keep practicing and you will get better. Have you ever heard of the mickel jordan story of when he tryed out his freashmen year?I have and i am goin to tell you what the story is. Mickel Jordan tryed out his freashmen year and did not make the team.So all year until next season he practiced all the time. So when he went and tryed out his sophmore year he made it, and he lead his team to the state champianship. Thats the mickel jordan story of when he tryed out but, he kept on practicing until the next season. Practicing always pays off. Trust me.
No suggestions. Sorry.

When not around a hoop, grab your ball and do dribble exercise's, use both hands. Go thru your shooting motions. When at a hoop, shoot lots of jumpers from different areas, and when you drive the lane, practice going on both sides of the hoop for lay-ups, and go reverse. Just lots and lots of practice. By the way, what position you going for?

Practice hard in your shooting and sprint a lot but not eat a lot.
Also skills is not only the part that makes a good player you have to be positive every time you get in a game because positive attitude can help skills.

practice... shoot, all kinds of shots from all kinds of distances. Practice free throws. Try and get into some sort of league to get some game experience. Practice is what's gonna help you the most.
