And wear jewellery and heels, makeup etc?

Sorry, I don't mean holding them down and making them...
But it is a social expectation I don't really agree with... I like doing it sometimes, but I don't wanna be made to feel by other girls (and some guys) that it's what I 'should' do otherwise I'll be unnattractive/unliked. It's really stupid. Mates and boyfriends should like you for who you are and how you look NATRUALLY...

Ive noticed that when I go a long time without shaving my legs, my skin gets dry and nasty. But when I shave them, they stay nice and I have no trouble. Its strange!

"Have" to?

No, I don't think anyone should "have" to shave, wear jewelry, makeup, heels, etc.

Women don't have to shave their legs or wear jewelry heel makeup ect. I wear jewelry once in a great while and make up hardly ever..i can count on one hand how many times i wore make up this month. I still get respect attention and all that even though I'm not all dolled up. Those things don't effect your personality~they don't make you who you are.

Not "have to", no! But if she so desires then why not? I do, and i'm a devout feminist. I like to "feel" sexy, for both mine and my husbands sake. If I feel unattractive I am less confident so it adds to my self worth.

I think the term "feminism" and all it's percieved to be about has quite negative connotations, but to me, being a woman is important to me. Being feminine equally important and wearing make up, heels, and shaving my legs is a very feminine thing to do.

feminism isn't saying women "shouldn't" do any of these things, it's saying, just because a woman does these things don't see her as anything other than what she is, a confident, attractive woman who likes to look her best for her own benefit as much as anyone elses. I don't wear heels to look attractive to others, I wear them to look and feel attractive for myself. It makes me feel like a woman, and being a woman is great. Certainly nothing to make excuses for and stamp sets of rules out for. But equally if a woman doesn't do these things it makes her no less a "woman" just an individual with individual choices. Saying women "should" do these things is as bad as saying thay "shouldn;t"

Do we say men "should" shave? does it make him any less a man if he doesn't, or does?

In the 21st century no-one has to follow any gender specifications to be who they are. Their personality should say all it needs to, and if that includes the wearing of make up or not (in either sex) it should be taken as an individual choice and not a gender expectation.

I certainly don't HAVE to. Really, who is going to make me. That's all part of the joy of living in a free country. However, I do shave my legs and armpits and wax my brows and polish my nails and have a collection of makeup and heels etc etc..

Women should try to be themselves. WHATEVER makes THEM feel comfortable. :-)

We go through so many things in life between bearing children, having our period and then going through the change of life,--I think we do deserve to not shave or put on makeup, hells or stockings once and a while.

If she's confident enough not to do it, I don't see why she should. However, most women care what others think of them and perform at least the basic social expectations.

If you refuse to follow social norms of any kind you should not be surprised if you suffer for it. Just make sure your principles are worth the harassment you receive from everyone else.

Well she doesn't HAVE to. Like come on, unless she's in an abusive relationship, no one is gonna come to her with a knife at her throat and say "you HAVE to."
Majority of women choose to, and that makes the minority feel as though they have to.
