I always wear athletic pants (Adidas), athletic jacket (not too thick, not nylon), with a couple of layers underneath (T-shirt, long sleeve shirt - thin or thick, depends on weather outside, cause it's sort of related to indoor rink temperature). That way, I can always peel off clothing when I get hot. Gloves are a must for almost anyone, mainly to protect your hands from scratching them in case the ice is rough. You don't need a hat inside, but maybe outside wouldn't hurt. Make sure you have socks, thinner kind, it helps to command your skates. People are often mistaken that they need thick socks to keep the feet warm.

You going with a boy? It makes a difference. Well anyway, wear a teal mini skirt, black tights, a white tank, and a white cashmere sweater over that, cute gloves, and..... for shoes before the skates, where some white Uggs. Perfect. J'adore!

People have given answers, but I ask you, if you are a beginner, put your pride aside and wear a helmet.
I saw a adult, 1st time on skates, fall and fracture his skull.

you can always wear jeans on the bottom and some swept pants to protect you, also have some gloves, or mittens to keep your hands warm and safe to land on. wear a sweater, and i nice warm t-shirt.wera long socks if you are renting the any supplies.

i would suggest
a leotard and tights
with a short shirt
tights are easier to move in than jeans
when you fall over its better for your modesty to wear the leotard than show off your knickers

Indoors, whatever you like (I typically wear jeans)...outdoors, dress for the temperature/conditions outside.
