That depends on how well you work with other people (your friend, specifically).
If the poem is going to be short, it's probably better to work alone.
Longer/more difficult poems could be easier with a friend.

Not a poem. A poem is something that comes out of YOU, no one else!
Collaboration works well if you write SF for example (Arthur J Clarke had many collaborators) because besides the creative imaginative part (You) you may need some technical credibility.
Except from that I see no example of a fruitful collaboration in literature.

I think it impossible to write a serious poem with someone else, as a poem is like a child, and can only have one mother. Humorous poems are another matter. Short stories can sometimes lend themselves to collaboration, but not all writers are comfortable with it, depending on how personal the nature of the story is. Non-fiction lends itself best to collaboration.

Perhaps your friend would give you some helpful criticism of your poems and stories instead. But if you share your work with others, do not be discouraged by their criticism. My father is a writer, and like most writers, received virtually hundreds of cold "rejection slips" before he was finally published. Good luck to you!

why not? As long as you both get credit, that way nobody is taking credit for everything.
