I would definitely recommend a Seagull acoustic guitar. Seagull makes excellent guitars, and they're all handmade in Quebec, Canada--nothing made in China or Japan. Their S Series isn't too expensive, but is still a great guitar. My first guitar was a Seagull S6+ with the cutaway, and I still have it. It has to be one of the best guitars I've ever played, and it only cost about $300. I would put it up against a guitar that cost twice or three times as much without giving it a second thought; it's that good. They use solid wood tops, so the guitar will age and sound better as you play it more and more.

Think on this: a used guitar has had time to get all of the scratches and dents a new one will get eventually. For 200 pounds, you can afford a very nice used one.

Head over to http://www.craigslist.com and click on your country, then the city nearest you. Check under For Sale, Musical Instruments.

Good luck.

lol, people: the unit the person posted in is the GBP (British Pounds). Two-hundred pounds is about $400 US.

Ibanez tends to be what most beginners at the music school are getting. I'd try eBay or craigslist and see if you get lucky and find a higher-end guitar at cutthroat price. I agree with the person who recommended Seagull - great company, and you can find them just within your budget.
