Do a course at college in textiles or fashion design. Loads of colleges do them. From there you can go onto university to do a degree. I think that's about the only way you can become one. After you do a degree, they would try to give you work placements. I did a btec national diploma in fine art and I did textiles and life drawing. I would be able to do a degree course at uni because I have that qualification. I think you would have to take life drawing as part of a fashion design course. Really fun too!!

Try a few of my links too, the 3rd one is all about different courses and careers in the industry.
Are you from the UK or US?? I have links from both countries.

It doesn't take just a degree and hard work. To become a famous fashion designer, it takes commitment and dedication. Yes, go take classes, at a fashion design school would be most beneficial. Start making crowd pleasers WHILE in school to gain a little attention among your school along. Get the degree, get ouf of school and design like crazy and MARKET. That is the main thing. What you need is a strong network of friends who will support you. Project Runway isn't the only way there. My friend is an excellent designer who already has his own fashion shows nationwide (but not on as large a scale as YSL or Versace mind you) but he was still rejected to Project Runway. It's all in the eye of the judges. So don't base your life on that. The best way is to have support who will give you judgement on the clothing, you better have your own eye of fashion or you're doomed, and MARKET. You will get nowhere if you design better than the Gucci house but cannot market your pieces to the public.

Have a lot of drive, self promote, meet the right people and kiss a lot of butt. Talent is secondary these days, look at the garbage the masses consider fashionable.

None of those solutions are precise. A "properly-cherished clothier" isn't something greater beneficial than a advertising and marketing gimmick. you ought to substitute right into a CEO. that's what the "designers" are. all of them have tiers in business employer, no longer style layout.
