Try a simple sponge filter. Bettas are not big fans of strong filters, so a big fancy filter is unnecessary.

There are a few simple ways to keep fish tanks very clean. Small fish called Plecostomus can be put in the tank along with the betas which consume algae. Snails are also a good way to keep the bottom and walls of the tank clean, but take care to talk to the employees at the store as betas will eat some of these fish and snails.
Also make sure that you have a filter installed in your tank to keep the water circulated and clean.
The water in your tank should be completely changed every few months and the bowl washed out with SPECIAL soap from the petstore. Regular detergents can be lethal to your fishies.
Hope this helps.

Invest in a filter. While betas usually don't require one its actually helpful in getting them more active and keeping the tank clean.

get an algea eater they clean your tank for you and there less expensive then getting a new filter their just another fish but it eats the food that sinks to the bottom and the fishes poop so it cleans it for you. you can find them in your local pet store. the algea eater is a fish that sucks to the glass rocks or other things in the fish tank they are grey with black spots and have like a kind of tail on them.
good luck!

Try a small filter. Betas don't like big bulky things. They need room to swim or else they get unhappy. Plus you won't have to change the water as much.

Don't feed it so much. That's probably why the tank keeps getting dirty. Those kind of fish can live up to two weeks w/o eating!

well i just got a fish and that did happend to me and i learned that if you clen the tank to muck or add new water than it will di........the reason why it keeps on getting nasty is either you feed it to much or putting to much food.
1.don't feed it too much because it will poop a lot and the water will get all plunk up.
2.if you put to much food and your fish doesn't want to eat than take the food out don't leave it in there.
3.take care of your fish and feed it 2 times a day

the one thing that sticks in my brain is that you're feeding it too much. Betas do not require much food
