I dont know why it is that I can look in the mirror and be satisified with how I look, then see a picture of me (later) from that same day and think WTF?!?!?! I thought I looked cute that day!!

Actually, since we're self-consciously looking into a mirror, it only shows that. What other people see is us animated, thinking of other things, moving, aware of the things around us in a way we don't look when we glance into a mirror. A videotape catches what we look like far better... except for that whole camera-adding-five-pounds thing (which reminds me of the Chandler joke on FRIENDS: "How many cameras were pointed at you?")

No it doesn't, it shows a reversed image of you. To see your true self, set two mirrors at 90 degree to each other. There's a web site that explains it, I just can't remember the address, you could try googleing true mirror.

The only reason for a mirror to fail to portray what is in front of it (outside cartoon mirrors) is the interpretation of the viewer.

In my case, when I look in a mirror it's not me looking back. I'm talking beyond the reverse that's reflected back, I'm talking when I look at the eyes, it's not me looking back. It's almost like it's someone else who shares my face staring back at me. I haven't seen myself in the mirror since I was a kid.

Both mirrors and cameras reflect and record exactly how you look. It's your brain that's messing things up.

yeah they do but some times the lighting can change the way you look.
looking in a mirror is kind of like hearing your self on tape. you always say "do i really sound like that". it's wierd.

they say the reflect does not lie. John says "in case you want to quite see the way you end up take mushrooms and look in a reflect its a visit bro." it truly is undesirable information. The mushrooms mess along with your imaginitive and prescient, each little thing is distorted.

I don't believe mirrors and cameras really show what we look like.
Only other people really know if you ask me.
