I had heard it was nothing but a fluttery feeling, so I was very surprised when I had a sharp kick (or something) to my uterus one day. Moral of the story is that it's never the same way for everyone. Now, when she moves, it feels like something wriggling inside of me. And my abdomen moves noticeably.

Answer: While an ultrasound can identify fetal movement as early as 7 to 8 weeks of pregnancy, women generally don't begin to feel the baby move until sometime between 16 and 22 weeks or later, particularly if it's the woman's first pregnancy.

The initial sensations you'll notice aren't real kicks, either. Instead, some women describe the feeling as being like popcorn popping or butterflies in the stomach. If you don't feel any activity by 22 weeks, ask your doctor or midwife about it.

After a while, you'll begin to discern a pattern to your baby's movement and you'll know if something's amiss. If he's not moving as often as he usually does, your baby may be in distress. Ask your practitioner when and how to count your baby's kicks.

I was waiting for the "fluttering" feeling but instead I felt twitches....for a while I didn't know if it was just a nerve or the baby--it ended up being the baby!! Also around 4 months the baby would "ball up" on one side of my lower abdomen (looked like a tiny bump and it was hard). I really didn't feel regular movements until about 24 weeks--but I'm a first time mom so I heard for me that is normal. Good luck and congrats!!:)

I don't understand the "flutters" and "butterflies." I always feel strong kicks and jolts. Your baby is still pretty low, so try laying on your left side and place your hand right above your pubic area (right on your skin, not over clothes) and wait. Try drinking something sugary before hand, that usually wakes the baby up. At first you might think you're feeling gas bubbles, but these are more kicks instead of a popping feeling. I guarantee you'll feel it soon! Good luck and congrats.

it's kinda hard to explain. But you will know. Suddenly you'll feel something (a jab or what ever) that comes from an area you know isn't gas. It's kinda neat...you'll probably be like...did I just feel it move? Then some time later you'll feel the same movement and that will solidify it for you.

You might not notice it the first few times, because it feels allot like gas bubbles. Try to lie still on your back, that is when it is most noticeable at first. It is different not with just every woman, but also in every pregnancy. While pregnant with my son he would kick like crazy when I listened to music, that is unless it was country. He is almost 2 and still does not like country music---isn't that funny?
Good Luck!

Both of mine really felt like little butterflys. If you feel something, it's most likely the baby :)

You might feel fluttering of sorts. There is no way to know for sure when it is your first. I always thought it was my imagination, but other mother's told me that is what they thought too. With my second child I knew that it was him moving for sure. He was very active and still is.
