Early Genesis: Outstanding prog drummer.
Later Genesis: Good drummer, good singer. Took a poppier route.
Solo Work: Half of it is is genius, half of it is absolute dreck.
But "Take Me Home" is still one of the greatest songs ever composed by anyone. The stranger rhythms, the catchy chorus, the whole thing is great, man.

Phil used to be the man. He lead a wonderfull life being the front man of Genisis in the 80's. I especially loved the video for "Land of Confusion". Alas...phil collins died somewhere in the mid 90's. Shortly after his passing, Disney resurrected and caputred his soul using various voodoo methodes. Now he only can sing for disney and his soul is tortured for all eternity.

Did he die? Phil Collins made one good song and it was I don't care anymore. All the rest were songs that will anoy me and many others for ever in elevators, lobbys, casinos and dentist offices. Truly a trajady for us all.

His first two solo albums are some of the best ("Face Value", "Hello, I Must Be Going")
He was best when he was pissed off at women and his ex-wife, in particular, which both those albums reflected.
When he's happy and content, the songs tended to be sappy.
He just got a divorce again, so maybe the tunes will pick up.

he used to be good before. Good music with good thoughts and lyrics.. Now i find his lyrics lame though the music is still good.
