BARE ESCENTUALS
BARE MINERALS
i have very sensitive skin and i found incredible results with this make-up. the look is flawless. and no preservatives. alot of companies now make 'mineral' make-up, but not all are preservative free. check.
my skin looks great now. most boutiques that carry it, or salons, or Ulta and Sephora- allow you to try it out. the website itself allows you to buy it and you can return it if you don't like it.
i find the foundations, concealers, and mineral veil (the finishing powder) to be the best i have ever tried- and i'm picky.
the lipsticks are ok, and the blushes/eyeshadows, etc... all ok.
as far as investing in a brand-don't go all out and think you have to have all your stuff 'match' brands. make-up artists don't.
and another all around product that i swear by is Benetint by Benefit. It costs around 30 bucks, but i've had mine almost a year (and i spilled a bit once). It's a liquid stain (a peachy/pink/rose color) perfect for lips and cheeks. it's flattering on all skin colors and buildable. you can adjust the intensity to your liking. and it doesn't wear off like a powder does. under your lipstick it will help your lipstick color to 'last' longer (meaning you'll have rosey lips beneathe your lipstick if the lipstick wears off).
finally, try a foundation primer. SmashBox makes the best. It's a clear silicone product. Kind of gel-like. I can use it on even my skin. It also comes in the SPF version, although i like the original. Tarte makes a similar primer (actually i can't even tell them apart if you asked me) that's a bit cheaper (25 vs. 30ish). But this stuff lasts a long time (of course it depends on how liberal you are with it and how often you wear makeup). Primer sets your makeup and fills in those pesky little lines we all get. Not to mention, it makes my huge pores disappear. You wear it over mouisterizer (after it dries) and before foundation/concealer. It feels like silk. I suspect even cheap make-up would look nice with this stuff.
hope this helps. email me if you need anything else. my husband thinks i'm crazy, but my hobby is make-up-so if it exist, i've probably tried it (or own it!).

Go for quality more than anything else. Try Yves Saint Laurent or Dior makeup, they are really good stuff. Dior foundation and lip gloss is some of the best and YSL do good bronzer and blusher.
They last a long time and in a way cheaper than buying lots of cheaper makeup and finding you dont like them.

Mary Kay is definetly the ultimate best. I have been using it for a year now and it does drastically change the appearance and texture of skin and its the only skin care program out there that can be designed specifically for your individual needs. I love to use the day/night solution which helps to keep my skin looking young - and it firms it. I also love many of the products such as the foundation which has sunscreen included in it.

Urban Decay - it's expensive and has a good range. But it's not a sin to mix because sometimes brands don't have every colour of that eyeshadow or this eyeliner.
