..... or just play it by ear hoping something fun will happen?

i generally have an outline... things I want to do, things I need to do, and the associated schedules (if there is one), I then plan out the best combination of things based on type of thing, location of event, time of event, which things go well together, etc.... then i fill in the gaps throughout the weekend (just sort of all willy-nilly) getting wild and crazy

I like to do a little bit of both. Take New Year's for instance...my hubby wants to go and do something, but we've got about five different options and we have to find a babysitter. Well, I'm pretty sure that I won't know what exactly it is we're doing until sometime late Sunday afternoon. Now, I love being spontaneous, don't get me wrong...but when I want to make plans with someone else for a night, it would be really nice if my hubby would make at least some sort of plan for he and I. I love to plan things for the most part, and he loves to play almost everything by ear. He'll change his mind at the last minute, or he'll act like he wants to go and do something but then hem and haw about the downside to whatever it is that he wants to do. Like tomorrow night there's a fight on TV and some friends of his want him to come up and watch it, and he seemed all excited about it when talking to them, but then he mentions to me that it's such a long drive and he's not sure if he wants to do that, etc, etc..... I can't stand that!

My mom's "in-laws" (she has a bf, not a husband) will plan every aspect of the day to the minutest detail. Who will sit in which seat in the car when they go wherever, what sort of dish the pat of butter for breakfast should be served in. By the time all these pointless details are worked out, the day is pretty much gone. The mother in law only had two children and they never had children so I think they forgot time management techniques as well as just to chill out and let the day happen. I vow never to live my life this way.

I have general "ideas" of what I need or would like to do. I've never been able to set a time table for "fun," seems kinda silly to try. "Okay kids, from 5pm - 7pm we're going to have fun!" Rarely does that work. Spontaneity and being open to having "fun" whenever or wherever you are is the key. I've had "fun" at more funerals than I've had at weddings...go figure. So I like to play it by ear, have a general list of things that need doing...and usually, "fun" just finds me.

I can't plan anything. I'm acually not capable of that. I have to do things at whim. I just feel like if i make a plan, i'm restricting myself. It's so odd, i know. And i usually end up sitting at home doing absolutely nothing. So i should plan. But i don't. Maybe i will plan something for this weekend :P

I plan to do all of my have to's on Thursday so I can enjoy what ever comes my way over the weekend. Aside from that, I don't plan because I find I do things based on what mood I'm in.

lol
Yes...and yes...
The first time my wife ever came to visit (exactly three years tonight, by the way), we spent HOURS planning walks, visits, ticking off touristy things to do in London. And then we'd have some lunch, and do some snuggling, and think about walking, and snuggle some more, and by the time we gave it some serious thought, it was dark!

Still do weekends kind of on this principle - sure, we miss some stuff, but not the best stuff :oD

Whenever I make plans they always get broken.
I just play it by ear and see what fate has to offer. It's really more exciting not knowing what will become of the weekend.

Play it by ear! But sometimes I miss the boat on the fun, cuz after all I am partially deaf in one ear. And that doesn't make for a very good trade

Mostly play it by ear, though I'm not afraid to use the occasional prop, such as rent a video or curl up with a good book.
