It depends what Your goals are. If You're aware of what position You're in, in Your personal and spiritual evolution; then violence isn't the answer regardless of any perceived benefits. If this isn't a factor then violence can get You anything You want, you just have to accept the consquences of Your actions when the authorities or other "Hard Guys" involve themselves in what Your doing, if You catch my drift. I've danced to both tunes my fine Boyo, I like the atonement phase I'm enjoying right now, free; so sublime; love; quite grand; life is simple; but good. I miss the knock around once in a while and my old crew, well I wonder if any of them are still alive; but hey; life is really short and being on the outside is the place to be for me regardless of the temptation of fast and easy money. Good luck young Blood, don't be two faced now if Your at the cross roads!

Whichever is in the best interest of the public at large. For example, if your country is under attack and citizens are being killed, clearly a violent response is required. However, if your McDonald's isn't hot enough...punching the server isn't going to accomplish much and will probably get your arrested.
Non-violence is such a romantic notion and people love to natter on about "Peace". However, there are rare circumstances where violence is necessary.

Depends on the situtation.
If someone harms my child physically - violence
If someone harms my child with words - nonviolence
So....if you don't put your hand on me, I won't touch you but if you lay a finger on me, be prepared for a beatdown.
