How about Mohandas Gandhi? He inspired Martin Luther King Jr. He created the philosophy of passive resistence and non-violent protest. There is lots of information about him available.

Perhaps one of the most noteworthy individuals in the recent many years was Mahatma Ghandi. He was a leader in India who had a HUGE impact on the nation, and on the entire world.

Abraham Lincoln stood against slavery and led the US into a new era.

William Wallace stood against the English and unified the Scots (he is the man in the movie Braveheart with Mel Gibson)

Rosa Parks. She was a black woman back in the 1960s who stood up for equal rights for blacks riding the city bus.

Back then, no black people were allowed to ride in the front of the bus. They were made to sit in the back.

She got fed up with it and sat down near the front.

It lead to all black people being able to sit where ever they wanted on the bus. It created riots in the street, there in Alabama but it was worth it. A lot of good things came out of that one act, for blacks all over the country.
