Get a cat and let the laws of the natural world unfold before your very eyes, and beleive me there's more. I wouldnt let it live with you there little turds can begin to turn up in all the wrong places,ie cereal boxes, you wont think about his saftey anymore once you find some nugs floating in your corn flakes.

They do sell live catch traps at the hardware store.
Basically its a little box with a ramp, and once the mouse goes up the ramp, there is a little trap door where the mouse can't get back out, then you can let him go outside.
But consider this, its winter time and its cold outside. If you let the mouse out in the middle of winter its going to die a slow painfull hungary death.
Unless you plan on keeping it as a pet, or letting it go in some other part of the apartment I would use the trap that snaps the mouse in half. Atleast that way its a quick painless death, where as the glue paper the mouse is going to suffer for a few days before it dies.

get a 5 gallon bucket.get a wire and a can, run the wire threw the middle of the can so the can will spin on the wire place on top of bucket fasten the wire down some how so the wire wont move but the can still spins. put peanut butter on the can or what ever you want to use. make and way for mouse to go up the bucket and can get to the wire and the can, the can should be in the middle of the opening of the bucket.
the mouse runs up the landing to the wire steps on the can falls in the bucket traped still alive.

I agree with laurajoy7. The spring traps are a humane way to kill them, glue paper is not at all humane. They need to meet their maker in a humane way. Live trap and letting them out outside is torture. Many cats will not kill a mouse, they just play with them. That is also not humane.
These are not pet mice that are bred to live in harmony with people. They are household pests and must be eliminated. The difference is critical.

Mice are smart little things so without harming it is a good question, but you could always get a cat maybe borrow a friends for a week the mouse would most likely be gone in a natural kind of way. So I guess I didn't really answer your question without harming it . Good luck.

Years ago I did this:
Start with a box, tall enough that the mouse can't jump out, and tough enough that he won't chew through.
Build a little ramp up one side, and dangle a yummy morsel over the box .(I built a little stand out of popsicle sticks, with peanut butter on a string) Place tissue paper over the open top of the box for the appearance of a solid surface.
Mousey goes for the food, falls into the box, and later you take him to a remote spot and set him free.
How's that?

I think you should do what they told you to do, but ask them to get the mouse out of the trap when/if it gets caught. also, if you see more mice then tell them you will call the city because mice carry a lot of diseases and that is not a place you want to live. (but only do that if it is a major problem!)

If you use the sticky trap and you catch it before it struggles to death, then you can put some vegetable oil on it and it will come off usually...or you can buy one of those plastic, they go in for food and get stuck cages. We bought one to catch my gerbil one time but you gotta check it regularly too because it can be in that too long either. It gets hot in those things. We caught my gerbil and it was ok tho. Luckily I heard it scramblin and we got a knife and got it out of the cage.

for one go get a kitty cat, they love to play with mice...really, trust me..
second .if you ever wake up with your nose or face itchy, and you see the mouse looking at you, you will putt hose papers all over the floor..and not care about the mouse..because they do that at night, the get up and look at you in bed...
ask the CO for his 45 so you can take care of the problem yourself seeing no one wants to help you out..and see if they will help you out then..
good luck
