How do you feel about this? I'm not too happy. I think the U.S. has done horrible things in the past and presently and also murdered millions of people throughout history. Who are we to judge? Especially while innocent people still die.

Yes, I know it was voted for an Iraqi court, but it's common sense that it was dictated and heavily influenced by the U.S. government.

it's as stupid as having China invade the Unites States and set up a new government they approve of and hanging Bush for the hundreds of thousands of deaths he caused in the invasion of Iraq!!!!!!!!

it's not only stupid but more importantly very dangerous to all Americans!!!!!!

I agree with you totally, EK... A foreign army makes an unprovoked, unjustified, immoral attack and invasion of a sovereign nation, occupies it with armed and shoot to kill soldiers, captures it leader, imprisons him, has him tried for the "crime" of being a tyrant by a puppet government that the invaders have put in place, and people think that this is justice? There is no doubt that the current government is doing exactly what the US government wants them to do (because they're puppets), and prime minister can overrule the court or choose to take no action on the sentence, if he wanted.

The USA has ignored and "dissed" the entire structure of government, the political process, and the constitution of Iraq. They even rewrote the constitution to suit them! Sadaam was the democratically, legally elected leader of Iraq. (Let's also remember, our esteemed president stole his elections too!) They have shown no respect themselves for the people of Iraq, and have killed more people in 2 years than Sadaam did in 20, so where is all of this respect for the Irqai judicial process coming from?

But here is what's most important: Sadaam is and has never been under civil arrest by the nation of Iraq, nor has he ever been in their custody. He is a POW, and will remain one, held by the US army, until he is executed. If this was an Iraqi affair, he would have been in their custody, but it's not an Iraqi affair, it's the invaders murdering the captured leader of the country that they occupy. Let's not be fooled by the kangaroo court process that convicted him. The verdict was a done deal before it started. So right or wrong, for better or for worse, let's be frank about what's happening here.

All of these answers who want to see Sadaam executed need to remember that Iraq was a modern, fully functioning nation before the mightiest military in the world destroyed and invaded it. Right now, people still don't have running water, not to mention jobs, public safety, and a hopeful future.

MoltarRocks is correct in saying that Saddam was tried by Iraqis in an Iraqi court. However, he also appointed the judges that conducted the trial, which leaves open a question of impartiality in the justices, in particular since justice in Iraq has't been practised for about 30 years.

Also Saddam was tried on war crimes. Iraq is the first country in which there was no international tribunal. Germany, Rwanda, Serbia war criminals were tried by international tribunals.

Third, while I believe that Saddam is probably guilty of war crimes, the court only covered a very small area. The U.S. government is not about to allow the Iraqis to cover all of his war crimes because this would show some complicity by the U.S.

First of all - Saddam was tried and judged in an Iraqi court.

Second of all - I am against execution. I don't really think he deserves it. I'm torn in the middle though - he did torture millions of people, yet, killing him isn't really the way to solve the problem.

Anybody know the date of the execution? I heard its Saturday.

We're not the ones doing the judging. He was tried and convicted in an Iraqi court.

he was tried and convicted in an Iraqi court, not by the US, there will not be any progress in Iraq untill his sentence is carried out, although we are in Iraq for sketchy reasons, Saddam was not in any way innocent

AMEN girlfriend. I totally feel totally uncomfortable about it. It seems kind of sick. Even though he is bad what Bush has done just seem not right.

I asked the question earlier about any other leaders this has ever happened to and the only ones I got was either someone overthrown in govt without a trial or an assasination or something. This seems totally out of the norm or the way the world usually works.

YES BUSH IS THE ONE WHO PUT THIS INTO MOTION AND I FEEL ASHAMED FOR BUSH. I DID NOT VOTE FOR HIM AND I AM GLAD GERALD FORD SAID HE WAS AGAINST THE WAR TOO.

You bleeding heart ignorant idiots will never get it, will you? Move to Iran or China, see how much freedom you would have if you made that statement over there.

By the way, the USA did not try saddam, Iraqi's did.

I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, Saddam did murder and torture countless people, so he does deserve what he gets. On the other hand, his execution will probably set off a chain of violent reactions around the world as people use him as an excuse for violence.

keep in mind that Saddam was tried and sentenced by the Iraq judicial system...also keep in mind that innocent people die in conflicts and in wars...and the leaders who are in charge of various countries and their military forces make hard decisions..... life can be sad and hard....but when someone steps beyond the bounds of humanity..like Saddam...his execution can be easily understood.

The United States DID NOT judge Saddam, he and his friends were judged in his own country by their law system.
