more than anything physical, i think that being prepared is the best thing that couples can do...make sure that you are ready to go to the hospital and be ready for anything. have everything prepared and finished at least a month before the due date. i was due in the middle of january and was in the process of putting the nursery together and getting insurance straight...hahaha apparently babies come whenever they are ready, NOT on your schedule. my baby came at 35 weeks 2.5 weeks ago. just try to get as much as you can done right now and do not wait too long. BE PREPARED and try to make things fun as you prepare. do not rush but do not procrastinate till the very end either.

one more thing, when that wonderful day comes, get an epidural. that was the best thing that i did in the eight months of my pregnancy, lol. best of luck to you :)

I have had four and I know what made it easy for me. Taking childbirth classes and being prepared to work with your body instead of against it. Please get the book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way. It really works. It is the easiest, least painful, and safest way to have a baby. People who use the Bradley method have a less than 5% C-sec rate. Most of them do not get episiotomies either. With the Bradley method the person is allowed to eat during labor, so they do not get weak from lack of food.

My doctor told me that avoiding excessive weight gain (more than 25 pounds) makes or an easier child birth. He said that the more you gain, the bigger your baby will be, and its a lot harder to give birth to a 10 pounder than a smaller one.

My sister gained 75# with both of her pregnancies and BOTH of her babies weighed more than 10 pounds at birth. So that was hard.

I've heard raspberry leaf tea 3 times a day in 3rd trimester is supposed to ease labor contractions. I made mine into sun tea so it was easy to access. My second baby delivered in 3 hours with little pain. My doctor doesn't seem to think it was the tea but I'll be trying it again, can't hurt!

Tell the doc you want paid meds early on. I dont care what anyone says, that **** is too painful to endure for hours. Also tell her not to let them give her an episiotomy! Its not necesary but they will tell you it is.
