I feel that if this is fair then almost all presidents and former presidents must hang after serving their terms, since they directly or indirectly thru their decisions cause death of a lot of innocent people and commit a lot of criminal offenses some of which remain undercover. I feel Saddam was no longer a threat after dethroning - why not sentence him to life imprisonment rather? (Hanging should be done to people who are potentially dangerous to live – like unrepentant rapists or killers who always break way to do the same act again)

The reasoning for executing him is not about removing a danger to society. That can be accomplished by imprisoning him. The point of the execution is to satisfy the society in questions desire for retribution.

Executing people really only serves as a way of appeasing a society that has been wronged. No other good comes of it. Also, the laws in Iraq are different than in many western countries and hanging him may be the only reasonnable punishment for his crimes, whithin their legal framework.

Saddam is unrepentant. If he was free do you not think he would do his damndest to make life miserable for the new Iraqi government? Sad thing is hanging is too good for Saddam. But I say hang him he has it coming.

WHEN THAT MAN IS DEAD AND GONE
(Irving Berlin)
Al Bowlly - 1941

When that man is dead and gone
When that man is dead and gone
We’ll go dancing down the street
Kissing everyone we meet
When that man is dead and gone

What a day to wake up on
What a way to greet the dawn
Some fine day the news’ll flash
Satan with a small moustache
Is asleep beneath the lawn
When that man is dead and gone

I'm afraid that hanging Saddam will simply turn him into a martyr and further destabilize the middle east. The fact that his trial had a lot of legal irregularities doesn't help legitimize his execution either.

Yeah I think he should just be placed under house arrest. I mean come on it's the most suitable punishment, not death, considering the US put him in power in the first place.

I agree with your statement. Imprisonment is far more humiliating. I'm sure after his lavish lifestyle he would rather die than sit in prison until death anyways. Why is he getting what he wants?
