Both mother and father should discuss and agree on a name for the child together. They both had a part in creating this new life...let them both name it. I think it is completely acceptable for the father to help in the naming process of a new baby. Good Luck!

Legally it is only the mother who needs to sign the birth certificate (therefore, naming the child). There are many births that do not involve the father (some are unknown) so it would be unreasonable to require them to sign. The mother is alwys present at the birth.
I'm sure it is acceptable for the father to sign the bc instead of the mother in cases when the mother is unable to do so due to l&d complications. In a case of adoption, the adoptive parent(s) will sign the bc. Call the hospital and find out.
But, in families with both parents involved - how they decide on a name is up to the individual couple. My husband and I chose a name we agreed on. My parents took turns naming my sister and I. Some cultures leave it solely up to one parent or the other.

Are you asking about a single mom? If so then yes she has the choice of what the baby is named. If you are the father and are involved with the baby and the mother than I am sure she will let you have some input on the decision. Otherwise if you are not involved you are out of luck.

My husband named our son and I picked his middle name. As long as you both agree on the name who cares if the mailman names him/her! Men have good ideas sometimes to, but I think the important thing is that both the mother and father need to like the name.

I think that the baby's name should be chosen by both of the parents....thats how me and my fiance did it ...I made a list of the names that I liked and them he went through the list and decided what names that he liked and then we narrowed it down to two names and then we chose the best name out of the two that were left

It's the mothers uterus, therefore, it's the mothers final say in naming the baby.
