There are several things users of electronic conferences on the Internet can do to ensure they are able to use this popular resource effectively. For example, users trying to find an appropriate discussion group can use tools such as the Directory of Scholarly Electronic Conferences to help them in their search. Additionally, once users begin to use an electronic conference, they should use polite rhetoric when they enter into group discussions.

Hi Mimi,
I don't see anything wrong with talking to people online as long as you're careful. Although, I don't think anyone should worry too much about it because it's just like meeting a stranger in a mall or something.
I mean, you wouldn't walk up to some stranger and say "Hello, my full name is ___________ and my phone number is ________ while my home address is ____________", would ya?
No, I wouldn't either and chatting online is no different!

There are a lot of weirdos online. If you are over 18, be careful and go for it. If under 18, don't do it at all.

The fact that you never know to whom you are really talking to makes me not want to do it.
