The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman is a 1971 novel by Ernest J. Gaines, written in the style of an interview with a 110-year-old black woman named Jane Pittman. Jane Pittman was born a slave in Louisiana, before the American Civil War, and has witnessed, and participated in, every major aspect of the history of Black America since that time.

The novel was made into a television movie in 1974. It starred Cicely Tyson and she received an Emmy Award for her performance
