I also feel sick when I think about the execution. It isn't that I believe Saddam Hussein is innocent of the charges. It's quite clear to me that he was a ruthless dictator who committed violent crimes against innumerable people. It isn't that I believe he is particularly worthy of being spared. If I'm going to put forth effort to save anyone, it will be the innocent victims in Darfur or others who find themselves in dire circumstances even though they have committed no crimes.

I am upset by the pending execution of Saddam Hussein because I believe it is uncivilized to punish murder with murder. If we are going to say that violence and murder are repulsive to us as civilized human beings, then we should refrain from using murder as a punishment. Executing people -- even people like Saddam Hussein -- just perpetuates the cycle of violence that we are supposedly trying to end.

To quote Gandhi, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

No, you are not wrong for feeling such a humane and moral emotion about harsh and cruel punishment. Granted we are not perfect as humans and we all make mistakes, but some mistakes are forgiven and overlooked while others are given a microcosm of the world to judge and determine what is right and wrong. I can' t help but feel sad for the state of the world. We claim to believe or profess in a higher power that rules, when I say we; I mean the United States. We convict a man for his principles of ruling his country and yet we will not tolerate another country enforcing their philosophies on the US.

You are just human. Even though he is an evil man, you still cringe of him being hanged. I do not like to hear of people being killed. I am just glad that I am not the one to make a decision. I had a supervisor who is Kurdish and his father was killed by Saddam or one of his flunkies. So I can see why some would like to see him hanged.

Its natural to feel queezy when thinking about the actual Hanging. However think of those that had little or no justice say up to a Million - 1,000,000. that were gassed, shot, hung, acid bathed, wood chippered and what ever else were there punishment of choice.

I think what you're feeling right now is just naturally normal. You're not alone I'm feeling the same to. As you said, I'm not a fan of him too.

When we heard of all the things that he's done, I thought he deserve to die. Now that he's heading to the gallows, I thought, why can't we forgive him?

When you stop and think, you might say what is wrong with me? I'll just find a soft spot in my heart and forgive him with what he did to humanity, and say a silent prayer hoping I'll find peace.

Sure some people may feel that way...but you have to remember that he killed thousands of innocent people in a MUCH more brutal way. He had people tortured, gassed and killed by the dozens for no reason at all....

And even if that doesnt do it for you, just not having to look at his face or hear him talk anymore will certainly be pleasant.. wont it?

Talk is one thing, doing it is another. That's why people debate capital punishment. Its not supposed to be easy to kill someone.
