Simple. They were on TV. People watch that and believe that this is actually good and what people should be buying and record producers see how great the ratings for American Idol is and they want to profit off the success of the show in hopes that these artists can actually sing their own stuff rather than someone with talent's stuff. Sadly, most of them suck on that show.

Since when do you need to be able to sing to get a recording contract??? It's all about what YOU, the consumer will BUY. Talent never did nor ever will have anything to do with who gets a contract and who doesn't. It's all about the money that a label can make off of you. The minute you aren't selling, you're out the door. NEXT!!!

Why did Madonna, Paula Abdul, Yoko Ono and many other famous people who can't sing get recording contracts? We'll never know what's going on in the brains of record execs, but, thankfully, no one is forcing us to listen to these bad singers, either.

American Idol put a lot of money, time, effort and hours in
the show and auditioning these people.
I really doubt they will choose people who can not sing.
just to waste all the above.
There is talent on the show .
some people don't agree and that is fine,
no one expects everyone to agree on the same things.
If those people you mentioned are so non talent, they wouldn't still
be singing and making money and fame.

Great question. I have wondered this also. I think its because people feel sorry for them. None of the singers you listed can sing and I totally agree with you. Sorry I couldnt help more.

I think they sing decent. But if you're talking about Kelly Clarkson i would have to DISAGREE! She sings GOOD! But Fantasia.. ehhh... she's okay.. LoL I think the best one was Kelly hands down.
