Actually no it is not safe. Doctors will tell you that if you had drank before you find out your pregnant that it should be ok. There is actually a research going on to see what the smallest amount of alcohol is that may cause health issues for your child. In some women it could be a sip, in others a glass, and others a bottle. Why would you take the risk?? They make all sorts of drinks these days that are like your alcoholic beverages but they a virgin! Think smart! Be smart! Think about the safety and health of your baby!

The experts are widely varied on this. Everyone agrees that there is no safe amount of alcohol which can be consumed during pregnancy, but the occasional glass or sip will not do too much damage.

Before I became pregnant, I swore that once I passed the first trimester, I would drink an occasional half-glass of wine with dinner, since I did love it so much.

But now that I'm pregnant, I'm overwhelmed with all the responsiblity of it, and I'm simply not willing to take the risk. Perhaps sometime down the road I'll take a small sip from DH's glass, but right now, I can't even fathom taking the risk.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! When you take a drink, your baby gets a drink of the same strength, and it harms the developing baby's cells and brain.

According to the FDA, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Surgeon General, and the March of Dimes, there is NO safe amount of alcohol that can be consumed during pregnancy. Just one drink, one sip, can harm your developing fetus. Alcohol is a toxin and can harm your developing baby's brain.

The biggest risk is fetal alcohol syndrome, which causes horrific lifelong physical and intellectual disabilities, but there are other risks, too.

Don't drink even one drop when you are pregnant!!!

From the March of Dimes: "Drinking Alcohol During Pregnancy"

"Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause physical and mental birth defects. Each year, more than 40,000 babies are born with some degree of alcohol related damage. Although many women are aware that heavy drinking during pregnancy can cause birth defects, *many do not realize that moderate—or even light—drinking also may harm the fetus.*

"In fact, no level of alcohol use during pregnancy has been proven safe. Therefore, the March of Dimes recommends that pregnant women do not drink any alcohol—including beer, wine, wine coolers and hard liquor— throughout their pregnancy and while nursing."

As long as you do not consume more than 4oz of wine, or 8oz of beer a day, more than 3 times a week, you should be ok. But do not take my word for it because there have been no studies on light alcohol consumption during pregnancy. I personally had about one beer a month for the first 6 months and so far my baby is fine. My first pregnancy I could not even handle the smell, my second I *craved* beer like it was going out of style and took that as a sign not to drink a drop.

I have a friend who drank heavily (getting drunk repeatedly) during her first trimester and her son needed a shunt to drain fluid from his ear when he was 2- he also had a lot of physical problems before then, but nothing too serious.

No good studies exist on the effects of small amounts of alcohol during pregnancy. However, why would you bother? One drink tends to lead to another, and before you know it, you may have consumed more than you wanted to. You're only pregnant for about 10 months - abstaining is the safest, best thing to do for the baby.

you should not drink at all, i am currently pregnant and that is the first thing they go over. do not consume any ammount what so ever, not even a glass of wine is okay. it causes brith defects to the baby and will have many deffects in years to come in his life. coffee and coke is an if factor. they dont have studies that yet say what exactly it causes to the baby, you are alowed 2 12oz sodas a day, which to me is still alot. i would try to drink juice as much as i can and water as well. it hard to drop a habit like coke, coffee and alcohol, but you are now responsible for another life, keep in mind that and do what is best for the baby.

Remember, everything you consume effects your baby. Lay off the alcoholic beverages until after the baby arrives (but even longer if you intend on breastfeeding). You truly do NOT want to consume something which could cause birth defects in your baby.

All infants are diverse and basically because of the fact many did no longer pop out with issues, does not recommend that some won't; even if if a woman consumes a splash quantity of alcohol throughout the time of being pregnant. Do you extremely need to take this opportunity with your baby? What in the journey that your toddler IS born with issues basically because of the fact of one drink? i could no longer hazard my toddler's well being just to indulge myself; that's punctiliously irresponsible. I examine that article it slow back. I certainly have easy relating to the study and outcomes and that i nonetheless have stored faraway from ingesting. in specific circumstances, while my husband has a wine cooler (my maximum renowned) i'm going to think of to myself, "Darn! i certainly want some!" even if if, i'm going to by no potential hazard my toddler's well being for something so egocentric. i'm sorry to sound judgmental. i'm very sorry if I offend somebody, yet i've got self belief very strongly approximately this occasion. I hate this question. =(

No, I wouldn't if you know you are pregnant. If it happened and you didn't know you are probable alright. If you know look up what fetal alcohol syndrome can do to children as they age. Uncontrolable fits of rage where they will hurt themselves and others without realizing, learning problems, and more. I was at a doctors office and a little boy there threw a fit biting himself and his foster mom, drew blood from him and her. She told us he had F.A.S. when she got him calm again, a good 30 minutes. I quit drinking completely till I was done having children, and got an IUD. I still probable only have 3-4 drinks a year. That poor boy just completely turned me off alcohol, to see what it can do to someone like that is an eye opener. Good Luck.

I drank a few glasses of wine when I was pregnant with my son, and he turned out fine. That was, though, of course, ten years ago, when they thought that a glass of red wine a day when you were preggers was good for you.

I'm pregnant with my second now, and research shows that no one is absolutely sure HOW much alcohol causes fetal alcohol syndrome, so, this time, I have chosen to abstain. You should, too.

Although the chances are slight that something is going to happen when you drink the occasional glass of wine, do you really want to chance it?
