Iranians hate America. Until the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran was governed by the CIA-backed shah (like a dictator) after he was helped (by the CIA) to overthrow a democratically elected leader in around 1953.
Since the revolution, Iran has refused to supply America with oil. This is why they are giving it to China and Russia.

How can we as a sovereign nation tell another sovereign nation what weapons they can or cannot have? Also how can we take a position against Iran getting Nuclear weapons and turning a blind eye to Israels nuclear weapons program?

This is a paradoxical problem...

Iran wants nukes to protect itself, but the only reason they would be attacked would be if they get nukes and use them first.

Also, I'd like to add that nuclear weapons are not a form of protection. They are an attacking weapon.

As for Israel's possession of nuclear weapons, they have stated that they would never be the first nation in the middle east to introduce nukes. What I take from that is that Israel will only use nukes if someone else uses one on them first.

No, but if we don't show definite moves that we are getting out of Iraq, it could be. We sure don't need to be threatening their country! My understanding is Iran is legitimately in desperate need for advanced electricity sources, and nuclear power is a choice that fits their needs. You would think Russia's experience would temper that choice.....

I think every country has the right to defend themselves. The US is looking less like they are trying to help the world and are looking more and more like a bully.
