Add some brown, and for more of a purplish maroon color, also some blue.
Hint:
Dip a little paint out of the pail into a paper cup, then add VERY little of the brown and blue so you can get a feel of how the color changes.

You can add brown to take your red to the next deep level. Or you can also add black. Whichever you choose, make sure it is the same type of paint as the red (latex with latex, etc.) and just add a bit of the darker color at a time. If it still isn't the color you want, try adding a little bit of dark purple.

Probably the brown, that will darken it and that is basically what maroon is a darker red, blue would make purple. Good luck.

red + brown will be close
red + black = maroon
blue+ brown=black
mix a little at a time until you get the color you want, test it on the spot and let it dry to see it first.
