Because men abuse their bodies so much in their younger years until by the time the women in their same age group reaches 60, they are all dead, on oxygen, in a wheelchair, etc. So that is why there is such a high number of women age 60 and older and such a slim picking of men age 60 and older.

Men have a shorter life expectancy than women. Men are more prone to genetic diseases, doing stupid sh!t when they're young that get them killed (this has actually been studied), and all sorts of other stuff. Once you get up to a certain age, that four or so years' difference in life expectancy really shows.

I've also heard folk things like that men generally follow their wives to the grave pretty quickly, while women don't, but those're probably just old wives' tales.

Part of it could be that women are less interested in getting into relationships than men are.

Part of it could be that men of 60 can match up with women who are younger, leaving fewer men of 60 for the 60-year-old women (and women of 60 usually aren't interested in women over 70).

Women who have had husbands who died may have no interest in replacing someone so "special".

Women who have divorced loser-husbands are even less interested in replacing THEM.

There may be a few more women than there are men over a certain age (because of the slightly higher death rate of men).
