Third world countries are undeveloped countries. There used to be a second world status, but it eventually fell form use. Under the classic first second third would set, Mexico would have been a second world country, while the US was a first world country, and a place like Niger would be a third world country.

They are no longer third world. They are "developing"
And yes, there is a "second world." An example would be like Egypt. Egypt is a successful nation but is still in the works of getting better. Make sense?

First world is 'developed', most homes have electricity and water; the nation has a solid infrastructure.
Second world is 'developing', nice homes have electricity and water, the nation is starting to establish an infrastructure.
Third word is 'undeveloped', only the richest government officials have electricity and water in their homes, there is almost no infrastructure.

The 'old' world was Europe
The 'new' world was the Americas (now specifically Canada and the US)
The 'third' world was everyone else.
Today, third world generally means non-industrialized nations.

I don't believe so. But who am I to say. America is mixed between the 2 worlds. When you're forced to choose between groceries and paying your electric bill, there is a problem. The affected population doesn't matter because nobody cares though.
