I was doing that very thing so often that I eventually invested less than $10 for a protective case. Mine still works. I read some story in the paper about a guy who accidentally ran his nano through a wash cycle and it still worked. They seem to be tough little things.

i guess it depends how tall you are if you're dropping it from waist height, it also depends on whether there is a protective case around the ipod and what type of floor covering you're dropping it onto i.e Laminate flooring or carpet

it depends on how hard the floor is or if you have any protective covering over it ....probably not a good chance because ipods are made of plastic

it's not advisable obviously to go an try it but why don't you buy a crystal clear plastic case for it from eBay they go for about a £5 they act as a protector and shock absorber

it varies
my friend had an ipod and dropped it while skateboarding and it was fine but then he dropped it from about 50cm and it broke in half.
