We need to know the species to help in depth, but the main reasons most turtles don't eat are simple:

Too cold. The water temp should run about 75-80F

Wrong food. For example, young pond turtles (like Red-ear sliders and Painted turtles) only eat meats, and never eat vegetables. No turtle should eat plain lettuce- yuck!

Too stressed. If the poor thing is being kept in a small, cramped, dirty tank, or is getting the wrong kind of care, or has no good lighting, etc., etc. then it will stop eating.

What kind of turtle is it? How long have you had it? It's very important to know what kind it is, as different turtles and tortoises need different foods and need different temperatures and different humidity. Also, some turtles won't eat for up to a week after being relocated, due to stress. Do you have hiding spots in the tank? Those also help reduce stress.

FYI, for the person that said turtles don't eat much, a healthy turtle can be a little pig and will overeat sometimes! Healthy, stress-free turltes want to eat!

Does it have enough water?

We just got a turtle, and prepared by doing all of the research. First of all, they are meat eaters. Second, some kinds CANNOT eat unless submerged under water. They sometimes take it on land, but they cannot acutally EAT it until under water.

You probably have this kind, as they are the most common as pets.

Good Luck!

It depends on the type of turtle. Like if it was a painted my friend bought some feeder comets (goldfish) he ate them up.

He may have already eaten today. I wouldn't worry about it, as turtles do not have huge appetites.

Research what type of turtle you have, and see what other food products might intrigue him.
