Saugatuk Michigan, a little tourist trap on the west coast of Michigan, along Lake Michigan.

Then, obviously, San Francisco, large, vocal gay community.

There are gays all over the place, it is not as if they are secluding themselves from the rest of America.

Most big cities have a section where gay people prefer to live. These sections usually go up in value. Gays are clean, polite, take care of their property and care for the community and the arts. Seattle, New York, San Francisco, LA and many other places all have large gay communities. But anyone can move in to a gay community, it is not exclusive to anyone.

A gay community is pretty much like a Hispanic community or a black community. It's not race or sexuality exclusive it's just made up mainly of people of that variety. Probably to either escape prejudice or because of lot of them are prejudice themselves. Either way you can find them all over the place.

everywhere and anywhere.

there are areas in almost all major cities that cater to specific groups; not just gay people but people of different ethnic backgrounds (little italy or chinatown or ...). It isn't so much a matter of people moving there but more that they gravitate to each other and these little communities within the larger envelope create an atmosphere of acceptance. For example, in many towns to speak only japanese makes life difficult but to live near and venture to the local japanese resources (shops, schools, etc.) can alleviate the problems of fitting in.

In my travels, I have been to many of these little communities in search of specific foods or to be enveloped in the atmosphere. And in them all I find the people friendly and outgoing; they are there to share and experience wiht others despite their being there to feel included.

So, whethe ryour travels take you to San Francisco, Toronto r elsewhere, always take time to seek out these pockets of culture and walk amongst the peole who can share their life and language and experiences with you. Bring your open mind and take away a wealth of knowledge and good feelings.

You might be thinking of Provincetown Massachusetts. It's a primarilly gay community with gay-owned businesses and residents.

I say gay community. "Queer" implies, through its very definition, something amiss or incorrect. Why would you opt directly to apply a term meaning unusual or skewed? i'm rapidly and that i wouldn't in any respect call any of my gay pals queer. that's a terrible notice. i'd think of gay human beings would have a sprint extra experience than that.
