There are many traditions/customs which by the way don´t mean they will really happen.

- When the clock strikes 12 you should throw backwards 12 coins (the same equivalent) over the balcony, window, (outside anyway), all have to be given, and you will never run out of money during the year.

- Also when it is 12 o´clock you take a suitcase (empty otherwise too heavy) and run around the block. It means you will travel during the year.

- In Spain during the 12 strikes of the clock you should eat 12 grapes (one by one) that will bring you luck during the year.

Those are some I remember. Did it all.

In the southern U.S., the traditional New Year's dinner is black eyed peas, collard greens and ham. The peas are supposed to be for luck, the greens for money. I can't remember what the ham is for. I don't like black eyed peas, so I guess I'm just out of luck. And I don't like collard greens, so I won't be rich either.

In North Carolina, we eat blacked eyed peas and collards. I've had pretty good luck the last few years, but it could be a coincidence.
