You have to have iTunes, it is scientifically impossible to upload any music to an iPod without iTunes. But you can however put anything in it but without iTunes it will only be used as an USB function like I use mostly now. However, iTunes is free to download from the net . I mean, you can put it in but you can't view your media files from it without iTunes. In conclusion,iTunes is indeed needed to put Music/Videos/Pictures to your iPod without it your iPod is only used as a USB key.

yes, you do need to download the itunes program to put anything on your ipod. You should have received a free download of it with your ipod, or you can download it free from the web.

yes, you do need iTunes to put music on to your iPod. iTunes converts the music files into something that iPod can read. simple MP3's won't do.

No, I use anapod explorer. You can get a free verision, but I recommend the one you have to buy. There is more features to this one. Also, another good thing is It dosen't delete my files like I tunes has in the past.
